muriel-dress-1This dress took weeks of designing, planning, sewing, and resewing, but it is now all done.
This dress will be called Muriel. It is based on a picture of a 1911 special occasion dress.
I made it to honor my neighbor and friend who taught me about sewing and inspired me to persue it professionally. I will present it to Muriel for her birthday on Thursday. I think she will be honored that I made a dress and named it after her.

Coming Soon

I have been tirelessly working on getting Thornton Square all ready to put on the web. I have so many different designs, it has taken time to sort them all out, and name them. We spent much of this afternoon shooting pictures to put on the site. Many of them came out, but some we will have to reshoot. I am not partial to digital cameras. They are so tempermental.
We shall soon?take some of the pictures outdoors. It should be warm enough on Tuesday. The lighting outdoors is certainly better.
Keep your eyes open for ThorntonSquare.com.

Getting Thornton Up and Running

I have been working on getting Thornton Square up and running. I have several different outfits, and designs all made, and I have been working on a couple others. Now, I just need to get the pictures taken, descriptions put together and then get them on the site. This is something I have been working on all winter and I am anxoius to get it done before spring planting comes along. That will take up most of my time until fall.

Our Neigborhood

This is our neighborhood circa 1917

This is our neighborhood circa 2007

As you can see not much has changed in our neighborhood 90 years. The road is wider, and now paved, and the trees have changed a bit, but other than that things remain the same. Most of the people are the same as well. Some are in Maine, and the others in New Hampshire, but we are still one neighborhood. The state line runs down the middle of the road, but it doesn’t divide the neighborhood.

Living in a small community is nice. There is nothing else like it. You know the neighbors, and they care about you. If you haven’t been seen in a couple days, they wonder if you are alright.
I grew up in a similar kind of neighborhood, and it is nice to know that these kind of places still exist. We all helped one another when it was needed. This neighborhood is no different. If we need help, they are there for us, and we are there for them.
Who are the people in the neighborhood? Read the rest of this entry »
