Missed Again
While on the phone today, the case worker for the sibling group of 9 called back. I immediatley called her right back, and of course got the voice mail.
We intentionally stayed off the phone for the next hour. By a little after 4, we figured she must have gone home for the day, and we went to the library.
Wouldn’t you know, we missed her calling back by just 15 minutes.
So, we again left her a message letting her know to call in the morning. She is sure to get us then.
Oh, I can’t wait to find out more.
With 6 You Get Egg Roll
If with 6 you get egg roll, what would you get with 9?
Yesterday, we learned of a sibling group of 9 that was is need of a home, and we called first thing this morning. We are anxiously awaiting the return call to learn more about them.
We do hope they call back soon.
The Adoption Option
This morning we got up at 4:30 to go to the Adoption Option down at Jordan’s Furniture in Reading, MA. After all the animals were fed and watered (us included) we hit the road about 6:30.
We made good time. Being that it was a Sunday, there was hardly any traffic. We arrived in about 2 hours.
We signed in, got our name tags, and began the journey around “Bean Town”. I must say that “Bean Town” sounded more like a night club than an adoption party. It was hard to hear anything. It was not what we had expected at all.
We met with most of the area caseworkers. We even got to meet the girl and boy we are interested in. It was nice to get to see them in person.
Other than getting to talk face to face with several case workers, we thought the party was way to loud, to much confusion, and it was not a good situation where you could actually interact with the children and get to know them a little.
Hopefully, the next party is a bit more low key.
Stacking of the Wood
Six cords of wood doesn’t sound like much, until you go to stack it.
Luckily, Ed and Peggy gave us a hand. We got most of it stacked, with just about half left to go. The rest will be stacked up by the house when the flower bed has died off.
It was nice to have someone else to cook for. They always like my “creative” side of cooking. Ed always has to have the recipe…only I don’t usually write them down. Maybe I should. Maybe I should do a cook book.
The Camper Has Landed
With camper in tow, today my in-laws came for a visit. Out pops Cricket (their Cocker Spaniel), and the cat runs for the barn. Little does he know that she has no interest in chasing him. She just wants to run through the fields of corn.
They will be here a week or so, and we will have a nice visit.
Policies NEED to Change
I knew there would be some back lash about my letter to the editor of the Conway Daily Sun about The Conway Area Humane Society, and I am glad. It will hopefully open people’s eyes and bring a about a big change in the operation of many shelters.
A phone call came in today. Seems that the Conway Area Humane Society isn’t please with me writing that letter.
She asked if we were trying to ruin the reputation of the shelter. She was told they are doing a good enough job of that on their own.
The director, Virgina Moore is the one who called. She stated that what I had said in the letter is not their policies, or has it ever been. I guess then, the Conway Area Humane Society’s employees just makes up the rules as they see fit, because that is what we were told; “You can not return the dog, and get your money back, and it will count as a surrender and go against you”.
It is my intention to bring this to people’s attention to make sure the policies are changed, and that someone else doens’t have to go through the pain and suffering (both financial and emotional), that we have had to go through.
The Waiting Game
We have sent out our home study to several case workers. Some have replied, most have not.
The waiting game begins.
New Chicks are Ordered
We ordered 25 new chicks, and they will be arriving the week of September 29th. We ordered a variety of breeds, so next year our flock will be very colorful, as well as the eggs they give.
The other baby chicks are growing well, and hopefully Henrietta will soon sit on more eggs. This will help add to our flock for next spring.
It Is Hard To Believe
I have been searching the internet for available children to adopt.
I have been looking on AdoptUsKids, for children that may be a match to our family. On this one site alone, there is almost 4000 children from across the country looking for permanent families to adopt them. It is heart breaking to think that there are so many children needing homes.
We are looking at several children in Maine, and a few from Massachusetts. I have looked in some other New England states, but many have connections to birth family. Some want to stay in the state that they are in. We understand that.
So, on goes our search to expand our family.
Policies Should Change
After the other day, when we were heart broken over Effie, I decided to write a letter to the Conway Daily Sun about the Conway Area Humane Society as well as other local shelters.
Not only did we have to have Effie put to sleep, we are now faced with having Chakra put down as well.
In my opinion, they can only claim to be a non-kill shelter is only true, because it is us owners who are doing the deed.
Here is a copy of the letter: Read the rest of this entry »
