George In His Love Nest
George, has not been to happy with us since we have sentenced him to his love nest. The hens on the outside aren’t to happy either.
They have been trying hard to figure a way to get to George. This morning I found two or three chickens digging under the barn. They were looking longingly for a way in to their honey. It must be great to have that kind of magnetism. Imagine having that kind of luck with the chicks.
Meet Nick and Nora Charles
We love old B&W movies. We have seen many of them over and over. We usually choose names for our animals from these movies. This time was no exception. We are happy to introduce to you Nick and Nora Charles, the bunnies.
Anyone with a guess on which movie these names came from?
Been Waiting 30 Years for This
While listening to the radio today, I found out today The Moody Blues are coming in concert at Meadowbrook Pavillion on August 22. I was so excited, I screamed. I have been waiting 30 years to see them. The pavillion is just a little over an hour away so it is managable with the animals and all.
I feel like the teenager who just got asked to the senior prom, or the child who won a free for all in a candy store.
The first time I wanted to see them, I was 16. My brother was going to the concert, and I was all set to go. Then my mother put the screws to that one when she realized I would be riding on the back of his motorcycle. I was crushed.
The Moody Blues have been a favorite of mine, since I can remember. It was actually my brother who got me hooked on them. They came around in concert a few more times over the years, but I could never go for one reason or the other. Kids were little, had to work, you know, the usual things in life.
As the kids got older, we had always planned to go together the next time they came around to our neck of the woods. I was so excited, I called my oldest and woke him up. Then I called my other son, and told him to take the day off.
Tickets go on sale Saturday morning at 10 a.m. I will waiting anxiously by the phone at 9.
I now have Moody Blues songs going through my head, awaiting the day I shall finally hear them live.

Happy Earth Day 2009
Today is the 39th anniversary of Earth Day. Earth Day was created to inspire awareness and appreciation our planet and Earth’s environment. It was originally founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970. Earth Day is celebrated in many countries every year.
Earth Day is an important day to our planet.
Earth Day should be practiced every day.
We are. We have made the decision to buy only products that are Earth Friendy. We already recycle, but realized this isn’t enough. The plastic water bottles have long disappeared from our lives, but there are so many other products that are marketed in plastic. We don’t want to be part of the problem, we want to be part of the solution. So, we have decided to stop buying products that are packaged in plastic as much as possible. This is a tough assignment, but if you look around, there are other options to many products. For example, you can buy lemon juice in a plastic bottle, or go to a natural food store and get it in a glass bottle. It may cost more in the bottle, but isn’t the future of our Earth worth it.
Today in honor of Earth Day 2009, we will plant an Austrian Pine tree that was donated by Western Maine Nurseries in Fryeburg, Maine. They donated 50 Austrian Pine tree seedlings to our Effingham Earth Day Celebrations that are planned for Saturday, April 25.
It may be just a small step in making this a better planet, but it is a step just the same.
Gluten Free and Delicious Too
Gluten free, and delicious. Two descriptions you don’t hear in the same sentence very often.
Last fall we started carrying Gramma Mill’s Gluten Free Baking Products in our shop. We like to carry as much local products as we can. While we did try the pancake mix before we started stocking them, we didn’t realize until today how delicious their whole line of gluten free products really is.
I woke up in a baking kind of mood. I went out into the shop, and figured I would try one of each of the Gramma Mill’s items we had. We would have to stock new for May anyway. I made the chocolate cake, and the coffee cake. It made the house smell so delicious. Out of the oven they came. It smelled wonderful. Took a taste, and I was delighted. The coffee cake is heavenly. I had to taste test the chocolate cake too. A small bit don’t ya’cha know. Ah, a chocolate lovers dream.
For people who are gluten intolerant, this is a dream come true. Gramma Mill’s not only gluten free, but actually tastes delicious.
Muriel Approved
We went down to Muriel’s house today to present her gift to her. I first gave her the card, then read her my poem I wrote for her. I was wearing the dress under my coat so she couldn’t see it right away. I showed her the picture first, and then took off my coat. She was thrilled. She was so happy that she now has a dress named after her for my Thornton Square designs. She was amazed at how far I have come since she first started helping me just about a year ago.
I so enjoy spending time with her, and I am always glad to bring a smile to her face.
The Fever Has Hit Me
I woke up this morning about 6:30. At first, I didn’t think it was going to be a good day. My head was swishy, and I felt kind of yucky. The norm for a person with vertigo. [Read more...]
This dress took weeks of designing, planning, sewing, and resewing, but it is now all done.
This dress will be called Muriel. It is based on a picture of a 1911 special occasion dress.
I made it to honor my neighbor and friend who taught me about sewing and inspired me to persue it professionally. I will present it to Muriel for her birthday on Thursday. I think she will be honored that I made a dress and named it after her.
Easter Egg Hunt
Today was the Easter egg hunt at the Effingham Public Library. I put my ears and my cotton tail and hopped on over to help out. The kids got to make paper Easter baskets and then decorate them. I brought the eggs, and they got to color those. There were stickers there for both the eggs and the baskets. Then it was time for the big egg hunt. There were 8 children, so they each got to find 4 filled eggs. The older kids found them right off. The younger ones were helped by their parents. They all found their eggs and headed back to the craft table.
The final treat was the cupcakes and apple juice. First we had to tear them away from the candy filled eggs.
The kids of all ages had a wonderful time.
